I own a S5ii. The autofocus is unreliable. The camera refuses to autofocus about 20% of the time. The M43 body’s contrast DFD autofocus is more reliable than the S5ii PDAF. What autofocus do you recommend? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Its missing the vintage color which is probably the most important aspect of making something look vintage. Only film can truly recreate old school textures and colors

Thanks for answering my question about the battery grip Sean! Like @superzero4250 mentioned below, the main function most of us miss is not the power capabilities of the grip, it's the grip itself. Like when taking video or stills handheld in portrait mode, not being forced to raise your arm above your head in an awkward position is big. Not to mention access to the other buttons. The ergonomics alone are worth it and also adds accessibility to folks with certain disabilities. Just a thought. Again thank you for taking your time to answer all our questions and all that you and the Lumix team do. Take care.

I wish someday Panasonic can add 10-bit HEIF picture format. Especially when Real Time LUTs is one of the major selling points of the new cameras. I'd like to use V-log + Custom Luts to shoot SOOC photos, and then grade them in DaVinci Resolve like videos. But I can only pack it into a 8bit JPG, which can produce bandings or other artifacts with V-log. Photo-dedicated people always say stills photographers don't need log profile since they have RAW. I think it's not true. There're lots of advantages shooting in log. - log gamma has a response closer to human visual perception and film. It maps nearly all the dynamic range stops into the range of displays. So, V-log+custom LUTs is a better SOOC solution than traditional stills gamma which makes you choose between crushed shadow and blown highlight in harsh high DR scenes. - With log gamma, the histogram is more aligned with true RAW histogram, which makes ETTR easier together with zebra (DPR wrote an article specifically about using log or HLG as a workaround of true raw histogram). Photo people might be scared of the higher base ISO number. But it's just an ISO rating number, the actual gain is the same with photo mode if they are both at the 1st or 2nd base ISO, the RAW file is totally not affected actually. The higher rating number is just for leaving more room for highlight. Imagine if we can shoot both a 10-bit v-log HEIF and a ETTRed linear RAW at the same time, how flexible is that? - We can match photos and videos easier. For instance, sometimes you need to insert a photo into the video, or you need to shoot some stop motion pictures. - DaVinci is a better color grading tool than LR. Now it can load 10bit HEIF pictures directly. I don't like Adobe's camera profiles, it always give me a harsh tonal gradation in poor quality artificial lighting conditions. A V-log photo on the other hand, is produced in-camera from RAW with an in-house fine-tuned log profile, which might make use of a more sophisticated profiling method than just simply shooting a color target. Like using SSF data and then tweak it to adapt all bunch of lighting conditions. I hope there could be more bridges connecting photo world and video world. As for color editing, they are all just images, shouldn't be that different. Right now Lumix cameras are almost there, for me, the only missing piece is a higher bit picture format.

I don't know if there's any business consideration of not implementing HEIF, like licensing problems. In that case, I remember Panasonic has a 10bit picture format called .HSP. We can only use it for HLG photo now. It will be easy to make it compatible with other log gammas. For me, I'll be satisfied if we can use it to shoot V-log photo and transfer it to a TIFF file without losing bits later on a computer. But I think HEIF will be the next standard picture format, especially in HDR age. All other new cameras have it now. And more and more softwares began to support it, like DaVinci Resolve, LR, and PS. Panasonic users will benefit more from implementing it actually. It will be the only camera brand to be able to shoot 10bit HEIF V-log photos with custom LUTs. Sony cameras can now shoot 10bit HEIF S-log3 photos, but no LUTs in photo mode. With other companies, you can't even use log profile in photo mode. While maybe not mainstream, but I know for a fact that a lot of guys have the same need as me. It's kinda hard to gather all the noises in one place to make the manufacturer be aware of the need. So I put it here and make a wish~

Hey guys, as a Lumix user, I'm really rooting for you. You doing a great job! Just some constructive criticism, that is not related to the technical side. Your marketing could be stronger. Some influencers aren't the most popular or charismatic. Also, the production quality needs improvement-better skin tones, lighting, better sound and a more professional look. You're targeting people who care about these details.

It will be. Currently only the s9 is supported but you can technically already do this with the Lumix labs app it's just it won't have the automatic connectivity that the s9 has so you'll need to import your photos first with Lumix sync until the update comes out. I tested it with shots from my s5ii

Hi Sean thank you for your answer on the GH 5S, but I am left with the actual experience that my GH 5S does definitely perform better in low light than the GH6 and since you’re saying the GH7 isn’t much improved over the GH6 there is definitely Room for improvement and I don’t know if that’s some sort of technology like a low light mode that combines multiple smaller photo sites and treat them as one to give a cleaner image, but I think it would be great to have some form of better performing low light camera option. As the technology in the current cameras does not perform as well in low light.

Sigma’s APS-C L-mount lenses force S5IIx (and I believe all other S cameras) to use APS-C zone. But! In that case Hi-Res mode is not available for stills and open gate 6K for video is not available either. E-stabilization also cuts from this APS-C area making it even smaller. It would be great to be able to use Full frame with these lenses like with other manual APS-C lenses from different manufacturers. Especially to use open gate shooting mode with E-stabilization turned on.
